Vets go per­fect in pre­sea­son

The Wood­stock Navy Vets fin­ish their ex­hi­bi­tion sched­ule with a 6-0 record, with their home opener Fri­day against Welles­ley

VETS END PER­FECT PRE­SEA­SON

The Wood­stock Navy Vets wrapped up their ex­hi­bi­tion sched­ule with a 4-1 vic­tory over the Aylmer Spit­fires to fin­ish with a 6-0 record.

Wood­stock opened the scor­ing against Aylmer with Kyle Walker and Austin Richard­son get­ting first pe­riod goals. Troy Van­den­buss­che scored in the sec­ond and Richard­son notched his sec­ond of the game late in the third to com­plete the 4-1 win. Both Richard­son and Walker had three point games as Keaghan Brett and Mike Har­ri­son com­bined for 12 shots in the win. Wood­stock had 47 shots on net.

Walker fin­ished the ex­hi­bi­tion sched­ule with a team lead­ing 12 points and War­ren Gor­man and Chris Jensen were sec­ond with seven points each.

Wood­stock starts their reg­u­lar sea­son with their an­nual free home opener Fri­day at 7:45 p.m. against the Welles­ley Ap­ple­jacks. They travel to Nor­wich to play the Mer­chants Satur­day.

MER­CHANTS COM­PLETE EX­HI­BI­TION SCHED­ULE

The Nor­wich Mer­chants fin­ished the pre­sea­son with a 3-3 record fol­low­ing a 4-2 loss to the Hagersville Hawks Fri­day and 3-0 win ver­sus Hagersville Satur­day.

Nor­wich started the Fri­day game with two first pe­riod goals from Blake Pow and Jesse Funn, but the Hawks scored once in the sec­ond and three more in the third for the win. Tyler Gubesch had 22 saves in net.

Nor­wich opens their sea­son Satur­day night at home against the Wood­stock Navy Vets at 7:30 p.m.

TAV­I­S­TOCK END PRE­SEA­SON 3-1

The Tav­i­s­tock Braves com­pleted a suc­cess­ful ex­hi­bi­tion sched­ule with a 5-3 win over the Dorch­ester Dol­phins Fri­day.

The win comes af­ter the started with a 5-2 loss to the Aylmer Spit­fires with a 5-2 win over the Kin­car­dine Bull­dogs and 5-3 against the Dol­phins.

In their Fri­day win, Tav­i­s­tock had goals from Jared Yantzi, Jake Wif­fen, Matt Gau­ther, Cole Cor­riveau and Derek Hyde with Jensen VanBoekel mak­ing 30 saves for the win.

Cor­riveau ended the pre­sea­son with a team lead­ing six points as Zac Berg, Hyde and Tayler Trach­sel each had four points.

Tav­i­s­tock be­gin their reg­u­lar sea­son against the de­fend­ing Sch­malz Cup cham­pion Ayr Cen­ten­ni­als at home Fri­day at 7:30 p.m. then visit the Bur­ford Bull­dogs Satur­day.

TRO­JANS START EX­HI­BI­TION 1-2

The Thames­ford Tro­jans opened their pre­sea­son with a 4-1 loss to the Mount Bry­dges Bull­dogs fol­lowed by a 6-1 win over the Lu­can Ir­ish and a 7-5 loss to the Bull­dogs last week­end.

In the Tro­jans 4-1 loss to Mount Bry­dges, Chris Dim­mers had the lone goal as they out­shot Mount Bry­dges 43-30.

Thames­ford came back with a 6-1 win against Lu­can Fri­day with Jor­den Win­ters scor­ing twice and Spencer Mills, Josh Moore, Gar­rett Hickey and Colby Dox­ta­tor adding goals. The Tro­jans out­shot Lu­can 43-29, with Mitch Va­nend­hoven and Tyler Hilde­brant com­bin­ing for the win in net.

The Tro­jans fin­ished the week­end with a 7-5 loss af­ter Mount Bry­dges scored three times in the third to win. Thames­ford had two goals from Colby Dox­ta­tor and in­di­vid­ual goals from Cody Trem­blay, Chris Dim­mers and Cody Cierc.

Thames­ford’s last ex­hi­bi­tion game is tonight at home at 7:30 against the Lu­can Ir­ish.

They open their reg­u­lar sea­son Fri­day at home against the North Mid­dle­sex Stars at 7:30 p.m. then visit the Aylmer Spit­fires Satur­day and Mount Bry­dges Sun­day.

HUR­RI­CANES OPEN WITH WIN

The Till­son­burg Hur­ri­canes of the Greater Metro Ju­nior Hockey League be­gan their sea­son with a 10-3 vic­tory over the Tot­ten­ham Steam.

Till­son­burg next plays the North York Rene­gades Sept. 17.
