Police warn of CRA fraud
Woodstock police are warning local residents about the return of a fraud involving people impersonating employees of the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA).
Woodstock officers have received several calls from the public about calls from fraudsters who claim they are from the CRA.
“The fraudsters are threatening and aggressive in manner and will state that you owe money and will be arrested should you not provide payment,” police said in a release.
Police recommended that you only report this type of fraud if you have provided any personal information to the fraudsters, or if you have become a victim of identity theft or fraud.
Deceptive telemarketers should be reported to www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/ or by calling the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
