De­war’s com­mem­o­rated the Jan­uary birth­day of rad­i­cal 18th-cen­tury Scot­tish poet — and “Auld Lang Syne” au­thor — Robert Burns in style with a one-night-only pop-up whisky bar in Toronto. On the menu: mash-ups of tra­di­tional Scot­tish and Cana­dian bar foods, each paired with a fine De­war’s cock­tail. Bri­tish chef Ge­orge Egg took the stage with an as­sort­ment of re­pur­posed power tools to de­liver a com­bi­na­tion cook­ing tu­to­rial and com­edy show, while a series of spir­ited live mu­si­cal per­for­mances thank­fully kept the bag­pipe so­los to a min­i­mum.
