Mental Health Estrie’s first ever mechoui fundraiser was a huge hit this Saturday, according to organizers.

“It was excellent” said Tanya Gibson, the executive director at Mental Health Estrie (MHE). “We sold out.”

Though the profits made from the dinner have yet to be calculated, according to Gibson over 200 tickets were sold for the event.

“We are overwhelmed with the support we received from the community,” she said. “We are very lucky.”

Compton-stanstead MP Marie Claudebibeau was also present at the dinner, and gave a speech highlighting the important role Mental Health Estrie fulfills in the community, since it is the only English mental health resource in the Townships.

The next MHE event will be the annual general meeting, held on June 22.

“It gives the opportunity for members to have their voices heard,” explained Gibson. “The group reviews fund management, votes on board members, and gets to see next year’s activity list.”

As for the mechoui, the executive director said that considering the success of the event, and how much fun people had, the organization plans on doing it again next year.
