Between three and seven years for violent home assault
Éric Landry pleaded guilty in December to four counts of attempted murder, break and enter, kidnapping and uttering death threats.
On the night of April 8, 2016, Landry broke into the home of the victim in east Sherbrooke before sequestering her, assaulting her and attempting to kill her. A publication ban prevents identification of the victim.
Defense had suggested a three-year penitentiary sentence, while the Crown had sought between seven and eight years of detention. Court of Quebec Judge Claire Desgens will impose her sentence on June 16.
The victim, who was rescued in extremis by her son who was awoken by a barking dog as Landry tried to smother her, found a letter written by Landry in the victim’s voice explaining her ‘suicide.’ She claims to have suffered extreme distress and trauma as a result of the incident.
