Cherry River Marsh elevated walkway closing for repair

-

The Pioneer Trail, which crosses the Cherry River Marsh from East to West, will be closed for a few months beginning September 5 to undergo repair work replacing the wooden flooring of the elevated walkway and a large part of the retaining piles. The bridge on stilts, built almost 20 years ago, has undergone rapid aging and a collapse in recent years, forcing LAMRAC to carry out the repairs and temporarily close all its wood-supported structures. The work is expected to be completed this year.

The affected area connects the Moulin and Roy road parking lots. Trails in forested areas near Roy Rd. will not be affected by the work.

The work will be funded in large part by a $500,000 grant awarded a few months ago by Canada Economic Development through Canada’s Community Infrastructure Program.

The City of Magog, which owns the site, is also providing financial and technical support to the project.
