Vert et Or earn 21-9 preseason victory against York

The Vert et Or were down to the York Lions after three quarters by a score of 9-4 but the tide turned in the fourth quarter when Sherbrooke scored 17 unanswered points to take the game by a score of 21-9.

Colton Hunchak scored the first touchdown of the game on a 12-yard pass from brother Brett Hunchak at 12:05 of the first quarter capping off a two-play 17-yard drive after recovering a Vert et Or fumble.

Two field goals of 22 and 27-yards from kicker Mathieu Hebert kept the game close. After scoring a safety, Sherbrooke tied the game 9-9 in the fourth quarter.

Sherbrooke earned the win in the last five minutes of the game scoring 12 points in three straight drives, a two-yard run followed up by a safety and a 17-yard field goal by Hebert to finish off the game.

Sherbrooke finished off the game with 304 yards of total offence to York’s 194 yards. Alex Jacob Michaud was 15-of-36 passing for 130 yards and an intercepti­on while also rushing for 39 yards and a one touchdown at quarterbac­k.

Sherbrooke will next play the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday August 26 at Telus Stadium in Quebec City.
