Costco move gets MAMOT approval

Sherbrooke Record - - LOCAL NEWS -

The decision paves the way for Costco's move to the Plateau into a building with area of approximately 140,000 sq. ft at the corner of Plateau-saintjoseph Blvd and Monseigneur-fortier Blvd.

Costco also plans to build a service station that can serve 24 vehicles at a time, an addition that many observers, including Sherbrooke MNA Luc Fortin, think will be beneficial to consumers.

In a vote split 13 – 6, council allowed the continuation of the proceedings to bring the giant retailer from King St. West, to the behind the Exhibition Centre. Smaller commercial buildings, including drive-through restaurants, are expected to be added to land owned by Immex Société immobilière.

Many citizens expressed fears about the relocation, citing increased traffic, greenhouse gas production, and transit service.
