Let’s celebrate those who have given to our community!
The Eastern Townships English-speaking community is stronger thanks to the people that go the extra mile or inspire others to get involved. Spend an evening recognizing the impact of some exceptional individuals who are working to build a stronger community during a free awards evening with Townshippers’ Association, joined by Sue Smith host of CBC Montreal's Homerun, on Saturday, September 16, at 7p.m. at The Piggery Theatre.
Long-time volunteer Clement Forest of Magog, Jo-ann Öberg-müller from Knowlton, and Nancy Robichaud, Canton de Hatley, will be recognized for their dedication and the many ways they have made a difference, becoming the 18th annual Outstanding Townshippers.
Mr. Forest’s involvement has greatly enriched the lives of students at Magog’s Princess Elizabeth Elementary School for more than forty years. Always a ready and positive volunteer, Ms. Öberg-müller has put her efforts into supporting many non-profit community organizations in the Townships and inspiring others to do more. Ms. Robichaud is also a dedicated volunteer, ready to tackle a range of tasks, and her 15-year organizing of the muchanticipated annual garage sale fundraiser help at Bishop’s University has brought the English-speaking community together to find deals while also helping students forced to leave their homelands, to continue their education.
For her efforts to encourage her fellow students’ academic success and growing the Phelps Helps Tutoring program, Alesha Grimes, a 17-year-old from Stansted, will be awarded the 13th Young Townships Leader Award.
A special highlight of the evening will be the awarding the Mcgill Health and Social Services Community Leadership Bursary Program to special care counselling student Marie-pier Latour-latreille and nursing students Marie-soleil Larouche and Brad-lee Tanguay. This bursary, which is administered locally by Townshippers’, help our community to invest in the future of accessible health care by helping to support health and social services students with English and French language skills to pursue their studies.
Townshippers’ will take a moment that evening to recognize outgoing voluntary board members, Peter Riordon and Melanie Cutting, and say goodbye to the Association’s cultural coordinator, Kate Holbrook, known for years as Kate Wisdom, who is retiring after 18 years.

The Colour Café – Back in Cookshire for Another Year!
The Colour Café will be back again in Cookshire this fall, starting on Wednesday, October 11. This fun, informal colouring group for adults will offer English-speaking Townshippers a couple of hours of socializing and relaxing once a month from October 2017 until June 2018. This free activity is open to all, and will take place at the Maison de la culture John Henry Pope in Cookshire (formerly known as The Rectory of St. Peter’s Anglican Church). This beautiful old home, which now serves as a cultural centre and art gallery, will be sure to inspire your colouring and get your creative juices flowing!
Colouring is an excellent method of stress relief because it allows you to focus your mind on something productive and inspiring – and it helps you to put aside your daily concerns for a couple of hours. So, come and colour with us! No talent is required and colouring within the lines is optional!
If you have your own colouring supplies, bring them along. Short a few colours? Don’t worry, some supplies will be available. Hot chocolate, tea, and some small snacks will also be provided to help warm up your creativity!
The Colour Café will take place the second week of each month, on Wednesday, starting October 11, from 6-8 pm at the Maison de la Culture John Henry Pope, Cookshire-eaton, 25 Principale Est, Cookshire-eaton. Service Canada – Information for Seniors
