The Es­tria Quin­tet’s 2017-2018 season is fi­nally here

and be­gins on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 28 (at St. El­iz­a­beth’s Church in North Hat­ley) and Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 29 (at the Up­lands Cul­tural and Her­itage Cen­ter in Sher­brooke) at 3 p.m. with the Quin­tet for oboe and strings by clas­si­cal com­poser An­tonin Re­icha, and one of the great­est master­pieces by Jo­hannes Brahms: his Quin­tet for clar­inet and strings opus 115. Fea­tur­ing the new Es­tria String Quar­tet (Julie Gar­riss and Ly­dia Gasse, vi­olins; Chris­tian Lam­pron, vi­ola; and Erich Kory, cello) with oboist Éti­enne de Médi­cis and clar­inetist Pauline Far­ru­gia.

Tick­ets are $10 for the con­cert, or $20 for the con­cert plus af­ter­noon tea (tea avail­able only at Up­lands and reser­va­tions are manda­tory).

Oc­to­ber 11 Bishop’s Univer­sity will be host­ing the “Cana­dian Jewish Ex­pe­ri­ence Ex­hibit,

A Tribute to Canada 150” (CJE) from Oc­to­ber 11 to Oc­to­ber 25. All are warmly in­vited to the

launch re­cep­tion on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 11 in the Cen­ten­nial The­atre Lobby from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The pur­pose of the ex­hibit is to share with all Cana­di­ans some Jewish as­pects of Canada’s story through a spe­cial nine-panel ex­hi­bi­tion. Two speak­ers will briefly set the con­text of the ex­hibit: Ms. Sharon Smith of Sher­brooke will dis­cuss what it was like to grow up Jewish in the Eastern Town­ships, and Dr. Daniel Miller will talk about the Jewish pres­ence in Canada.
