Our first meet­ing of the new season was Septem­ber 19. Our Pres­i­dent, Shirley Des­ruis­seaux, ex­plained the changes that were de­cided at our last Com­mit­tee meet­ing in Au­gust. They are: ar­rival time 11:30 a.m. fol­lowed by the meet­ing it­self only af­ter the noon meal. We will also in­clude the main course for the meal in the pub­lished notes from the meet­ing so mem­bers will know in ad­vance what to expect. An­other thing we changed is pass­ing around birth­day cards for mem­ber’s sig­na­ture be­fore giv­ing it to the per­son hav­ing a birth­day dur­ing the month.

Jokes were read by Shirley and Penny Fowler fol­lowed with a text ‘A lit­tle mixed up’. The drawings were done, Leane May­hew, Ketha Wood­man and Leta Dustin won the Par­tic­i­pa­tion and Ger­rit Van der Mark, Joan Labrecque, Ernes­tine Whip­ple and Reta Mackey won the door prizes.

We had an elec­tion to name new mem­bers in the Com­mit­tee, Bar­bara Bel­lows was in charge. Both Shirley Des­ruis­seaux and Bar­bara Bel­lows were step­ping down this year. A re­view of the ac­tual mem­bers was done, Mary Les­sard re­mains as Trea­surer and Suzanne Martin as Sec­re­tary. Nom­i­na­tions were called for the pres­i­dent and vice-pres­i­dent posts. For Vicepres­i­dent, Leta Dustin pro­posed Shirley Des­ruis­seaux who ac­cepted and Joan Bald­win pro­posed Su­san Beaton who de­clined. Shirley Des­ruis­seaux is our new Vice-pres­i­dent. For Pres­i­dent, Suzanne Martin pro­posed Penny Fowler who ac­cepted and there were no other nom­i­na­tions. Penny Fowler is our new Pres­i­dent.

The meet­ing went on with Shirley say­ing she would be help­ing Penny with the tran­si­tion. She also an­nounced that Bar­bara and Lance Pax­ton are in charge of the meal choice. Sug­ges­tions were asked. The cake this month was from a store but Ellen Bai­ley ac­cepted to make the one for Oc­to­ber – on a trial ba­sis. The calls to mem­bers will be han­dled by Ly­dia May and Bar­bara Pax­ton.

We lost a few mem­bers this sum­mer, Shirley asked for a minute of si­lence for Wilson May, Joe Cut­ler, Elaine Green and Elise May­hew. She also read a prayer.

Penny Fowler gave tips to keep al­ler­gies un­der con­trol. We had a guest speaker who went around the ta­bles and talked to mem­bers in­di­vid­u­ally. She is Jade St-martin, the Out­reach worker for the el­derly at the Cen­tre d’ac­tion bénév­ole de la MRC de Coat­i­cook. Next month the meet­ing will be Oc­to­ber 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Elie Car­rier Cen­ter. The main meal be­ing chicken. You will be re­ceiv­ing a tele­phone call a few days be­fore.
