Coaticook Area Senior Citizen’s Club
Our first meeting of the new season was September 19. Our President, Shirley Desruisseaux, explained the changes that were decided at our last Committee meeting in August. They are: arrival time 11:30 a.m. followed by the meeting itself only after the noon meal. We will also include the main course for the meal in the published notes from the meeting so members will know in advance what to expect. Another thing we changed is passing around birthday cards for member’s signature before giving it to the person having a birthday during the month.
Jokes were read by Shirley and Penny Fowler followed with a text ‘A little mixed up’. The drawings were done, Leane Mayhew, Ketha Woodman and Leta Dustin won the Participation and Gerrit Van der Mark, Joan Labrecque, Ernestine Whipple and Reta Mackey won the door prizes.
We had an election to name new members in the Committee, Barbara Bellows was in charge. Both Shirley Desruisseaux and Barbara Bellows were stepping down this year. A review of the actual members was done, Mary Lessard remains as Treasurer and Suzanne Martin as Secretary. Nominations were called for the president and vice-president posts. For Vicepresident, Leta Dustin proposed Shirley Desruisseaux who accepted and Joan Baldwin proposed Susan Beaton who declined. Shirley Desruisseaux is our new Vice-president. For President, Suzanne Martin proposed Penny Fowler who accepted and there were no other nominations. Penny Fowler is our new President.
The meeting went on with Shirley saying she would be helping Penny with the transition. She also announced that Barbara and Lance Paxton are in charge of the meal choice. Suggestions were asked. The cake this month was from a store but Ellen Bailey accepted to make the one for October – on a trial basis. The calls to members will be handled by Lydia May and Barbara Paxton.
We lost a few members this summer, Shirley asked for a minute of silence for Wilson May, Joe Cutler, Elaine Green and Elise Mayhew. She also read a prayer.
Penny Fowler gave tips to keep allergies under control. We had a guest speaker who went around the tables and talked to members individually. She is Jade St-martin, the Outreach worker for the elderly at the Centre d’action bénévole de la MRC de Coaticook. Anyone can contact her at any time at 819-345-0877 or email@example.com Services are available to 50+; offered on a voluntary basis; available on the territory of the RCM of Coaticook; confidential and free.
Next month the meeting will be October 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Elie Carrier Center. The main meal being chicken. You will be receiving a telephone call a few days before.
