Sports Southampton Golf and country club report
Aug. 31, the name of the game for Men’s Day golf event was “quota points”, played on the back nine that boasts three par-5 holes including the dangerous 17th with all kinds of trouble waiting to snag balls and cause havoc with scores.
But Derryl Urstadt managed to avoid most of the problem areas to accumulate 16 quota points throughout the nine holes and win First place in the A-flight. Gerry Call also had a decent round as with 13 points and took Second place. Larry Curtis and Lou Bezaire tied for third place in the flight with 12 points each.
In the B-flight, Hugh Morrison was back, scoring 15 points and winning First place in the flight. Mike Cleary took second with 12 E-MAIL: firstname.lastname@example.org WEB SITE: www.mcintee.ca, www.realtor.ca “2 Offices in Saugeen Shores to serve you better” LISTING NEW points, followed by Jim Norwood in third spot with 11. The Men’s Match Play even finished with congratulations to Rocky Weller who won the final match in a very close game.
So what else is new? More rain on Senior Men’s Day cut play to the front nine holes. That was no problem for those who came out in the afternoon, but umbrellas and golf gloves were needed in the Like us on morning. Only gross scores will be calculated this week.
Derryl Urstadt had a fine front nine, carding a 39 to win First Low Gross in the A-flight. Phil Hunt and John Hale were third, only one stroke back to share Second Low Gross with identical scores of 40, followed by Mike Pitzen in fourth spot with a 41.
In B-flight, Peter Welford took First Low Gross honours with a round of 44, followed by Gord Moore who was only one stroke back with a 45. Rick Robinson and Bert Tripp shared Low Gross with scores of 47.
