Southamp­ton res­i­dents un­in­jured in house fire

Two Southamp­ton res­i­dents, a mother and son, ran to safely es­cape a house fire nov. 30 that en­gulfed the rear of their Knech­tel St. res­i­dence.

Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Ea­gle­son said they were called out at 9:30 p.m. and found an ac­tive fire in a porch area at the rear of the home.

“The fire was sup­pressed quickly and over­haul be­gan quickly to save the rest of the struc­ture. The main part of the struc­ture is in­tact,” Ea­gle­son said in a Dec. 1 in­ter­view, adding the in­ci­dent re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.“

He said power was dis­con­nected so the res­i­dents can not stay in their home, but are be­ing helped by fam­ily, friends, neigh­bours and vic­tim’s as­sis­tance ser­vices.

“We were able to get them some clothes and some im­me­di­ate needs met, but they are out of their home at this point.. and we get­ting them some help at this dif­fi­cult time,” Eagl­son said.
