Climate change is real

Simcoe Reformer - Times-Reformer - - OPINION -

In the article on the demolition of portions of Nanticoke Generating Station, Monte Sonnenberg states that the Ontario government shuttered this plant because of concerns over “…greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide that some fear are artificially warming the planet.”

This is incorrect. The Ontario government closed Nanticoke because it knew climate change is a real and present danger, directly caused by our activities.

In the decades to come, when you, your children and your grandchildren are trying to deal with the significant impacts that climate change will have on your and their “lifestyles”, you can blame Mr. Sonnenberg personally for delaying the necessary actions required to attempt to stop the worst of it. He does this by trying to pretend that there is some question as to whether climate change is caused by our activities. There isn’t. It is.

Mr. Sonnenberg should not be allowed to write news stories until he learns the difference between news and propaganda. This won’t happen, as Postmedia is all about propaganda for the 1 per cent. In the coming decades, the 1 per cent will do quite nicely, thank you.

However, we will also have to blame ourselves for not acting. One way to start is by publicly telling the Simcoe Reformer to lose the propaganda. We have had too much of it.

In the end, Mr. Sonnenberg won’t be around for the worst of it. Neither will I. However, I care about those who come after me. Michael Blythe Scotland, ON
