Man dies in house fire
LASALETTE -- A man died in a house fire in Lasalette on Saturday.
Fire crews were called to a home on Lasalette Road shortly after 9 a.m. where the man was found inside, said Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk. He believes the call was made by a neighbour.
The name of the victim has not been released. Sanchuk said Saturday it would take some time to determine his identity and notify the next of kin.
Sanchuk said there was no one else in the home at the time of the fire.
“We want to attempt to get an identification and get some closure for the family.”
There was yellow tape surrounding the house on Sunday and an OPP cruiser parked out front but no visible signs of fire damage. Sanchuk said there was “quite a bit of damage” inside the home.
Sanchuk said the Ontario Fire Marshal was called in but there is nothing to indicate there is anything suspicious or any foul play.
“Lasalette is a very small community,” said Sanchuk. “Something like this hits close to home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody.”
