a slightly dif­fer­ent for­mat, and we were ea­ger to ex­pe­ri­ence all that the Que­bec ITU Win­ter Triathlon had to of­fer.

In the days lead­ing up to the event, we ner­vously watched the un­sea­son­ably warm, rainy weather and fret­ted about course con­di­tions. A num­ber of other cross-coun­try-ski­ing events planned for the same week­end in East­ern Canada and the U.S. had been can­celled. Or­ga­niz­ers as­sured us that the Triathlon would go ahead as planned and they did not dis­ap­point. The re­frig­er­ated skat­ing oval at the Plains of Abra­ham en­sured great con­di­tions for the skate de­spite the rain, while plen­ti­ful snow was well-pre­served and groomed for the ski and snow­shoe legs.

In terms of or­ga­ni­za­tion, the Que­bec ITU Win­ter Triathlon is one of the best events that we've ever at­tended. We were able to pick up our bibs and tim­ing chips on the day of the event and were di­rected to the tran­si­tion area by cheer­ful and help­ful vol­un­teers. One vol­un­teer checked as we en­tered tran­si­tion to en­sure that we had all of our gear, in­clud­ing a buck­led hel­met for the skate.

There was plenty of space for each com­peti­tor in tran­si­tion and each spot in­cluded a chair, which kept us off of the cold snow as we put on our run­ning shoes for the first leg and then switched over to ski boots in tran­si­tion.

We headed over to see the start of the Elites, and it was im­pres­sive to hear the an­nouncer rat­tle off their ac­co­lades. We would be rac­ing on the
