Fourth annual Craft Spirits Festival in Lunenburg
People will be getting “spirited away in Lunenburg” at the fourth annual Craft Spirits Festival in Lunenburg on Oct. 12 to 14, in celebration of the growth of the craft spirits industry in Nova Scotia.
Ten distilleries from Cape Breton, to Lequille, two guest distilleries from Quebec and New Brunswick, five mixologists from Halifax as well as two guest mixologists from Alberta and Ontario will be taking part in this year’s festival, which includes fun tasting events, interactive learning workshops, a marketplace and a festival gala.
“Nova Scotia’s craft distilling industry is booming and we’re celebrating,” say Lynne Mackay and Pierre Guevremont, co- owners of Ironworks Distillery and event organizers. “For one fun weekend in Lunenburg, we are bringing together distillers, mixologists and a couple of hundred enthusiastic guests who love local spirits!”
A number of Lunenburg’s well-known restaurants are featuring spirited dining specials during the festival with carefully prepared menus integrating Nova Scotia craft spirits. Late night music, sipping events and a windup brunch on Sunday will round out the festival fun. All festival venues are within walking distance and accommodations are nearby.
“Saturday evening’s Spirited Away in Lunenburg Festival Gala will take place in a delightful historic venue, the Lunenburg Opera House,” says Mackay. “Our Nova Scotia craft distilleries will be set up for tastings and our mixologists will be on hand to show off a dizzying array of cocktails cre- ated from Nova Scotia craft spirits.”
The complete program is available at Nsspiritsfestival.com. Festival passes and individual event tickets are also available on the website. Nova Scotia’s craft distilling sector has continued to grow with more than a dozen distilleries now operating in the province.
