Artists share insights into gallery display

The four J’s earned straight A’s at Saturday’s coffeehouse evening for the Young Professionals exhibition currently displayed at the Art Gallery of Swift Current.

The J’s, artists Jill Armstrong and Jillian Cyca, plus musicians Julia Fritzke and Jackie Clifton, highlighted an all local evening of music and art while showcasing the amazing talent which exists right in Swift Current.

The artists conducted a Walk and Talk Tour of their contrasting art works.

Armstrong’s display delves into the artists perspective of fabric patterns on couches.

While partially tongue in cheek, there is also emotion portrayed in the works because they help connect to memories.

“This is funny. Please laugh, because it should be this moment between you and the painting, the audience and the painting kind of trying to find its memory.”

Cyca’s pieces were produced through a screen printing process and are showcased on paper she made herself. Much of the imagery in the work was admittedly influenced by a trip to Japan.

“I want to start right at the beginning. I want to make an art work from scratch. That’s what I like doing. I get a lot of satisfaction out of making things myself, going though these processes that are hard and they are really time consuming.”

Both Fritzke and Clifton performed a series of captivating self-written songs to open and close the evening.
