U12 United open sea­son with sec­ond-place fin­ish

The Swift Cur­rent United Un­der-12 Girls opened their in­door soc­cer sea­son by at­tend­ing Moose Jaw’s first ever MJSA Youth Tour­na­ment on Nov. 29-30.

The team started out with a 2-0 win against the host Moose Jaw Storm on goals from MJ An­der­son and Payton Fehr.

They dropped their first game in a 6-1 loss to a very dom­i­nant Regina AC Fut­bol team on a lone goal from Meisie Cham­ber­lain.

The U12 United girls went on the play the Storm again in the semi-fi­nal and de­feated them 5-2 this time. An­der­son paced the at­tack with four goals and Cham­ber­lain added a sin­gle in the win to clinch a spot in the fi­nal.

They re­matched against Regina in the fi­nal where they were un­able to gen­er­ate scor­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties in the first half but were able to hold off the dom­i­nat­ing team from Regina for a 0-0 score af­ter one half.

Regina was able to break through in the sec­ond half for a 4-0 fi­nal.

Swift Cur­rent put in a great team ef­fort and was back­stopped by solid goal­tend­ing from Ju­liana Whalen. The U12 United Girls are coached by Jen­nifer Lepage and Dona Eid­sness An­der­son.

The U12 United Girls will be back in ac­tion on Jan­uary 10-12 for the 2014 RSA Youth Tour­na­ment in Regina.
