South­west Cy­clones tame Li­ons twice

The South­west Cy­clones re­mained un­beaten in the South Sask Fe­male Ban­tam A Hockey League with two home wins over the weekend. The Cy­clones skated past the vis­it­ing Spring­side Park­land Li­ons on Satur­day with a 4-3 win.

The Cy­clones trailed 1-0 af­ter one pe­riod and 2-1 af­ter two pe­ri­ods be­fore scor­ing three goals in the third pe­riod. Darby-Jane Fletcher, Laura Fid­dler, Tay­lor Kir­wan, and Reece Giro­dat all scored for the Cy­clones. Court­ney Bredahl had two as­sists, while Court­ney Funk, Chelsea Wil­son, and Je­nessa Fournier all added sin­gles.

Keara Zo­erb picked up the win with 18 saves on 21 shots as the Cy­clones out­shot the Li­ons 36-21.

The two teams re­matched on Sun­day and the Cy­clones scored the first five goals in a 5-1 win. Zo­erb earned the win with 24 saves on 25 shots to im­prove to 7-0 with a 1.57 goals against av­er­age. Giro­dat paced the Cy­clones with four goals, while Kir­wan added a goal and an as­sist. Fletcher and Fournier both added two as­sists.

The Cy­clones fin­ished the weekend in sec­ond spot in the nine-team league with a flaw­less 7-0-0 record be­hind Este­van (9-0-1).

The Cy­clones will re­main at home on Mon­day when they host the last place Wood River Ice Cats at 7 p.m.

They will get their show­down with the Este­van Charg­ers on De­cem­ber 22 when they visit Gull Lake at 12 p.m.
