Wild­cats look to im­prove on the road in Prince Al­bert

The Swift Cur­rent Di­a­mond En­ergy Wild­cats will play their fi­nal two games of the year in the Saskatchewan Fe­male Midget AAA Hockey League when they visit the Prince Al­bert Bears this weekend.

The Wild­cats sat fourth in the eight-team league af­ter the weekend with a 77-3-0 record. Prince Al­bert was sixth with a 5-5-3-2 record.

The two teams have played twice dur­ing the reg­u­lar sea­son so far. The Wild­cats lost 3-2 at home on Novem­ber 30 and then won in a shootout the fol­low­ing day.

The Bears are led by de­fense­man Brooke Hob­son, who is tied for the lead among all SFMAAAHL blue­lin­ers with nine goals and 12 points. She scored three of those goals in the third pe­riod on Novem­ber 30 to sink the Wild­cats. Bears’ goal­tender Jes­sica Vance is 6-0 with a 2.08 goals against av­er­age and a .936 save per­cent­age.

The Wild­cats are led by two out­stand­ing goal­tenders as well. Vet­eran Brook­lyn Weis­ger­ber boasts a 1.91 GAA and a .929 save per­cent­age. Rookie Jasey Book has a 1.60 GAA and a .932 save per­cent­age.

Vet­er­ans Kar­lie Bell and Brook­lyn Haubrich lead the Wild­cats with 12 points apiece and rookie Kate Scid­more leads the team with seven goals.

The Wild­cats have been strong at home this sea­son with a 7-1-1-0 record to se­cure 23 of 27 pos­si­ble points. They will need to find a way to win on the road though af­ter earn­ing only four of a pos­si­ble 24 points in eight road games.

The Wild­cats were also in Wilcox on Mon­day to face the Notre Dame Hounds. Check sw­booster.com for re­sults.

The Wild­cats will also be par­tic­i­pat­ing in the Mac’s AAA Midget World In­vi­ta­tional Tour­na­ment in Cal­gary from De­cem­ber 26 – Jan­uary 1. The sched­ule for the tour­na­ment was ex­pected to be re­leased on De­cem­ber 18.

The Wild­cats won the pres­ti­gious tour­na­ment in 2007 and 2008.
