Wildcats look to improve on the road in Prince Albert
The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats will play their final two games of the year in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League when they visit the Prince Albert Bears this weekend.
The Wildcats sat fourth in the eight-team league after the weekend with a 77-3-0 record. Prince Albert was sixth with a 5-5-3-2 record.
The two teams have played twice during the regular season so far. The Wildcats lost 3-2 at home on November 30 and then won in a shootout the following day.
The Bears are led by defenseman Brooke Hobson, who is tied for the lead among all SFMAAAHL blueliners with nine goals and 12 points. She scored three of those goals in the third period on November 30 to sink the Wildcats. Bears’ goaltender Jessica Vance is 6-0 with a 2.08 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.
The Wildcats are led by two outstanding goaltenders as well. Veteran Brooklyn Weisgerber boasts a 1.91 GAA and a .929 save percentage. Rookie Jasey Book has a 1.60 GAA and a .932 save percentage.
Veterans Karlie Bell and Brooklyn Haubrich lead the Wildcats with 12 points apiece and rookie Kate Scidmore leads the team with seven goals.
The Wildcats have been strong at home this season with a 7-1-1-0 record to secure 23 of 27 possible points. They will need to find a way to win on the road though after earning only four of a possible 24 points in eight road games.
The Wildcats were also in Wilcox on Monday to face the Notre Dame Hounds. Check swbooster.com for results.
The Wildcats will also be participating in the Mac’s AAA Midget World Invitational Tournament in Calgary from December 26 – January 1. The schedule for the tournament was expected to be released on December 18.
The Wildcats won the prestigious tournament in 2007 and 2008.
