Hurricanes clinging to top spot
The Swift Current K Motel Hurricanes remain in top spot in the South Sask Midget AA Hockey League after facing a pair of rival Regina teams on the road.
The Hurricanes were supposed to be in Wilcox to face the Notre Dame Bantam Hounds on Wednesday but that game was cancelled.
Friday, the Hurricanes saw their nine-game league winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 loss to the host Regina Capitals. Regina scored all three goals on the powerplay and the Hurricanes failed to capitalize on six man-advantages.
Saturday, the Hurricanes got a shutout performance from Blade Roh in a 1-0 win over the host Regina Flames. Darby Crozier’s eighth goal of the season, scored midway through the first period with an assist from Wade Auger, held up as the winner as the Hurricanes kept the rival Flames off the scoreboard.
The Hurricanes finished the week in top spot in the league with a 20-6-3-0 record, two points ahead of the Capitals. They will be off from league action until February 15-16 when they host the Weyburn Wings and Regina Wild. The Hurricanes will be in Lethbridge for a tournament this weekend.
