Drunk driver flees crash scene
St. Thomas officers charged a 47-year-old man with several offences, including impaired driving, after the driver of a car was involved in a crash and then fled the scene. A van was travelling east on Elm Street near Peach Tree Boulevard at about 10 p.m. Monday when it was rear ended by a car, police said. The driver of the van pulled over to exchange information with the car driver, but the car didn’t stop. The van driver followed the car while a passenger called 911, police said. Police said no one was injured in the crash. The car driver was arrested at his home. Initial breath samples indicate he had about 200 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millimetres of blood, police said, more than two times the legal limit. A St. Thomas man is charged with impaired driving, driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving with an open liquor container.
