A week stuffed with celebration

St. Thomas Times-Journal - - LOCAL NEWS - GRACE GILLET

St. Joseph’s High School community has been bustling with many exciting events and activities.

Over the past few weeks there have been opportunities to celebrate the harvest of the season and share in the spirit of Thanksgiving and fellowship. Student council hosted the school’s annual “agriculture day” Oct. 5.

The front lawn was decorated with farm machinery compliments of Huron Tractor and Hyde Park Tractor. Horses, a goat, baby steer, chickens and friendly dogs were grazing on the grass as well as cattle roping demonstrations for students.

A complimentary farmer’s breakfast kicked off the day. In the afternoon students were treated to a lunch barbeque complete with candy apples.

A pie baking contest is a new addition to the “ag days” events.

Keynote speakers provided information about careers in agriculture. These information sessions were of value to all students including those enrolled in the new agriculture SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) course at St. Joseph’s.

“Friday night lights” kicked off Thanksgiving weekend. The junior and senior football teams hosted the Mother Teresa Spartans and ended up victorious in both games. The stands were filled with bundled up spectators cheering on the Rams to final scores of 42-7 for the juniors and 13-0 for the seniors. Friday night lights is an exciting Ram tradition, way to go teams.

Keeping up with the spirit of fellowship and Thanksgiving, St. Joseph’s held a successful Thanksgiving food drive. Food donations were delivered to St. Thomas Fire Station 1.

There is truly something for everyone under the roof at St. Joseph’s; health and wellness club, humanity club, ukulele club, writer’s club, fashion club, best buddies, equestrian club, chess club, concert band, reach for the top and robotics to name a few.

Good luck to all Ram athletes as they prepare for final meets and tournaments occurring in the next few weeks of October. The cross-country team will be ready to run at the tri-county Thames Valley Regional Athletics meet Oct. 17. Many runners have had great success in preliminary races this season and we wish them good luck.

One final and exciting piece of news is the upcoming musical St. Joseph’s. It will be in the first week of December. Watch for performance dates and upcoming ticket sales as you won’t want to miss this exciting production. It will be supercalifragilisticexpialidociaous!
