Agency out more than $27,000
The Psychiatric Survivors Network of Elgin (PSNE) is getting $27,000 less from the city after social services reevaluated funding for homelessness prevention. The agency was granted the funding when it opened its residential service, but following building code violations it was forced to close units that were being used and there’s no indication they will reopen. The network wasn’t alone — Fresh Start Maternity Supports was allocated more than $17,000 but the program closed suddenly and so the city took its money back. Inn Out of the Cold will receive more than $25,000 to go toward salaries for a system navigator and on-site shelter manager. YWCA will receive almost $19,000 to help fund salaries for a case manager and housing systems developer and a training session. Council received a report detailing the funding changes at Monday’s meeting.
