The ac­tion starts Thurs­day at noon, at the Shorty Jenk­ins Clas­sic in Corn­wall. Day 1 at the Corn­wall Curling Cen­tre has some big names in the sport bat­tling head-to-head, with a noon match be­tween two-time world cham­pion and five-time Euro­pean champ Nik­las Edin, from Swe­den, tak­ing on former world champ and two-time Euro­pean win­ner Thomas Ul­srud, of Nor­way. The 3 p.m. af­ter­noon matches are power-packed too, with com­peti­tors in­clud­ing Brad Gushue (cur­rent Brier and world cham­pion and former Olympic gold-medal­ist), Glenn Howard (four-time world and four-time Brier champ), and John Ep­ping’s team with lo­cal curling star Matt Camm. Brad Ja­cobs, the cur­rent Olympic champ and a former Brier win­ner, starts his cam­paign at 6 p.m. on Thurs­day.
