ALEXANDRIA — The Township of North Glengarry has parted ways with its tax collector and is alleging she was responsible for discrepencies in tax bills.

The township issued a statement Friday indicating Sandra Cameron was released from employment on Nov. 9 and that the OPP had been contacted to investigate.

The statement spelled out how the township became aware of discrepencies in how payments, penalties and interest were being replied and reported on property tax bills. It called in Deloitte LLP to conduct a forensic investigation, which continues. An interim report confirmed transactions of a nature and scale that violated municipal policy and practice.

As of yet, no criminal charges have been filed against Cameron by the OPP or any other law enforcement agency and the actions North Glengarry has alleged she committed have not been proven in court.
