AKWESASNE — The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is asking for the public’s help in finding another missing person.

Donald “Do” Johnson has been missing since last Friday and was last seen in St. Regis, N.Y.

Johnson, 30, is a short man standing 5-foot-2-inches tall, has black hair and a dark complexion. One of his distinguishing characteristics is that his left arm is paralyzed. When he went missing, he was wearing a dark green jacket and blue jeans.

According to the police, Johnson it is not prone to leaving home for any length of time, typically returning home every day. When he left on Friday, he did not tell anyone where he was going and hasn’t contacted friends or family since.

“At this point, we do not believe that his disappearance is suspicious, but there is a great concern for us to confirm his safety,” said Kariwate Mitchell, the lead investigator. “It is very unlike him to not be in touch with anyone.”

The Mohawk police are also still searching for Kenny Leaf, 50, another Akwesasne man who has been missing since Jan. 13. The police are asking anyone who spoke with leaf the weekend he disappeared to contact him.

“We are looking for first-hand knowledge, whether you spoke to him in person, phone or social media and you haven’t spoken to the police yet, please contact us,” said Mitchell.

So far, the police have searched the Snye Channel and parts of the St. Lawrence River with the assistance of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department after Leaf was reported missing.

But at this point, they have no evidence indicating that he might have fallen through the ice, it was done as part of a general search of the area,

“Taking into consideration that it was a possibility for this time of year, the search and rescue team of our local fire department were performing due diligence,” said Mitchell.

Anyone who knows information that could help find Johnson or Leaf is asked to contact the Akwesasne Mohawk police at 613-575-2000 or call Crime Stoppers.
