The off-broadway turned international hit comedy Menopause the Musical is coming to Cornwall next month, and it’s going to help raise money for Maison Baldwin House.

There’s one performance-only on March 11 at 2 p.m. at Aultsville Theatre.

“It’s a fantastic show,” said Aultsville Theatre general manager Janet Martel. “Not only is it going to be fun and enjoyable, but the producers have partnered with Maison Baldwin House (giving it) a local connection.”

Maison Baldwin House is a 10-bed, emergency women’s shelter located on Fourth Street West in Cornwall, offering services for abused women and their children. Money will be raised for the facility by the sale of $5 “hot flash fans,” available beforehand and during the intermission.

“We’re really excited about it,” said Danielle MacNeil, the Maison Baldwin House public education and volunteer co-ordinator. “(Show producers) contacted us a few weeks ago, in each city they (support) a women’s-based charity. . . they had heard of us, and they want to support us.”

Menopause the Musical features an all-star Canadian cast, the show celebrating women on the brink of, in the midst of or having survived “The Change,” and it’s in Cornwall for the first time.

“It’s good all-around – it’s a great show and it’s supporting the community,” MacNeil said. “It’s impressive that this show is coming to Cornwall, and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

It’s being brought to Cornwall by Shaggypup Productions, the Canadian producers of the show under licence from GFour Productions. The show over the years has won 54 Drama Desk and 44 Tony Awards.

“We’re thrilled to be coming to Cornwall and excited to align ourselves with Maison Baldwin House, a first-class charity,” said Mark Zimmerman, co-producer and partner in Shaggypup Productions.

The just-announced Canadian cast features members of the original Toronto cast where it played for two years. The cast includes Janet Martin (Housewife), Jayne Lewis (Soap Star), Nicole Robert (Earth Mother) and Michelle E. White (Professional Woman).

The show is set in a department store where four women meet by chance while shopping. After noticing unmistakable similarities among one-another, they joke about their woeful hot flashes, mood swings, weight gain, memory loss and more, ultimately forming a sisterhood and unique bond with the audience.

The laugh-out-loud production gets audiences out of their seats and singing along to brilliant parodies of 25 classic hit songs from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

Menopause the Musical is in its 14th year of production, and has been seen by over 11 million audiences across the world, and in more than 450 U.S. and Canadian cities.

Ticket prices for the show, with taxes included, are $41.50, $51.50, and $61.50 for VIP experience. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Cornwall Civic Complex box office, by phone at 613-938-9400 or online at www.aultsvillethe
