Time for tryouts
it’ll soon be tryout time, for athletes looking to suit up for the Cornwall Wildcats in 2018 National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) play.
The NCAFA is a competitive travelling league and a leader in tackle football in the Ottawa area since 1955. Games are played in the late summer and fall on Sundays, and teams generally practise twice a week.
Cornwall Wildcats teams to be entered in 2018 NCAFA action are at the Tyke level (turning 7-9 years of age), Mosquito category (10-11), Peewee division (12-13) and bantam loop (14-15).
The tyke squad will be coached by Kirby Camplin, and the first tryout is on Sunday, July 22, from 3-5 p.m. The tyke team will compete in the season-opening Tyke Fest that’s held in Ottawa each year, a minitournament involving all of the NCAFA squads. This year’s Tyke Fest will be held on Aug. 12.
Cornwall’s mosquito level team will be coached by Nick Belmonte, and the first tryout is on Sunday, July 22, from 3-5:30 p.m.
Camplin will be doing double duty, guiding the peewee Wildcats squad, which has its first tryout on July 22 from 5:30-8 p.m.
And the Cornwall bantam squad, coached by Dakota Kennedy, will also have its inaugural workout on July 22 from 5:30-8 p.m.
