Cruise offers Clooney support
Tom Cruise has wished his Hollywood pal George Clooney a speedy recovery after the dad-oftwo was injured in a scooter crash earlier this week.
Clooney, 57, was hospitalised on Tuesday after he came off his scooter at 96 km/ h following a collision with a Mercedes in Sardinia, Italy.
Cruise, who is known for doing all of his own stunts in films including his Mission: Impossible franchise, sent his well wishes to the movie star and told him to “be careful, be careful, man!” when asked if he had any advice.
“He’s great on a motorcycle and I hope he’s OK,” he shared with Access at the world premiere of Mission: Impossible — Fallout in Paris. “I really, George, I didn’t know until I was here but I hope you’re OK buddy.”
The Top Gun actor is a huge motorcycle fan himself.
He was further asked if his pal’s accident had made him reassess his own passion for the vehicle.
“Never, no never,” he insisted. “The bike will retire me, I won’t retire the bike.”
Clooney was seen leaving the Italian island on Thursday with his wife Amal and their 13-month-old twins Ella and Alexander.
He had been renting a home with his young family while he filmed miniseries Catch 22, a TV adaptation of Joseph Heller’s book of the same name, which he is believed to have either finished or has been put on hold while the actor recovers.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes has revealed he was horrified when he realized he had hit a famous Hollywood actor.
Plumber Antonello Viglino told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera he didn’t see Clooney as he attempted to make a turn into a residential compound and at first didn’t even know who the movie star was.
“I couldn’t see anything, I had the sun in my eyes,” he shared. “I was just starting to turn, I’d only gone a little way over the white line. I’m in shock. It all happened in an instant. I tried to stay calm, I was worried that he had hurt himself really badly. I could never have imagined that I would have hit George Clooney.”
