Townshippers’ Day 2011 Seeks Host Town
Townshippers’ Association is now accepting proposals from communities interested in hosting the 2011 edition of Townshippers’ Day, a bilingual cultural festival and information fair celebrating the rich heritage and cultural dynamism of the English-speaking community in the historical Eastern Townships. The event generally attracts between six and eight thousand visitors. For more information about Townshippers’ Day, visit our website: www.tday.ca.
The 32nd annual cultural celebration will take place in the third week of September 2011, and include an arts gala on the Friday evening, followed by the traditional, day-long cultural festival on Saturday. Townshippers’ Association’s board and staff members will work closely with the chosen town’s volunteer organizing committee, bringing considerable resources and experienced personnel, to help ensure the success of the day.
Every year, Townshippers’ Day brings together people – English and French – from across the Eastern Townships and other parts of the province for a dynamic program of music, dance, arts, artisans, information, activities, healthy food and fun for all ages.
Every year, the Townshippers’ Day festivities highlight the unique character of the host town and help to bring the community closer together. As Ingrid Marini, Executive Director of Townshippers’ Association notes “T-Day is an excellent opportunity for towns and villages to showcase both local artists and their community. It encourages community involvement in a pleasant volunteer environment, all the while opening the doors of the town to visitors from all over the Townships and the rest of Quebec.”
To be considered as a host town for Townshippers’ Day, a community must submit a proposal to the Association. A choice will be made by the Association’s Community & Culture Committee and approved by the Townshippers’ Association Board of Directors. Last year’s T-Day in Danville featured plenty of sun, smiles and many interesting performers, including this small group of budding Irish Dancers.
