Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier

The magazine Geo Plein Air is running a contest to find the Quebec municipality with the most “plein air” or, in other words, with the best outdoor activities.

There are four Townships municipalities among the finalists: Coaticook with its parc de la Gorge which features horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, snowshoing, snow tubing and camping; Sutton with its ski mountain, natural environment park Sutton en Haut and Au Diable Vert; Magog with its Mont Orford ski centre and park, the Marais de la Riviere aux Cerises (marsh) and the Véloroute des Cantons; and Notre Dame des Bois with its entrance to the Mont Megantic park with its Astrolab, two observatories and its many kilometres of hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails.

The ten towns that will receive the most votes will be presented in a special article in the June 2011 edition of Geo Plein Air. The winning municipality will be featured on the magazine’s cover.

The public is being asked to vote, from among the fifty pre-selected municipalities, to determine the Palmares des municipalités Géo Plein Air du Québec at www.geopleinair.com. So if you would like to see a town in our region get some good publicity that may attract new tourists to the area, take a few minutes to vote. Voting ends on February 28th.
