Conservatives to reduce border services

Stanstead Journal - - FRONT PAGE - Victoria Vanier

Bloc MP France Bonsant is worried about the Harper government’s plan to reduce services at the Canadian/ American border. “The decision of the Harper government to close two border posts in Quebec and to reduce the operating hours at three other posts in Quebec will have heavy consequences. These closures and reductions in services may cause a reduction in economic activity in the areas affected as well as cause a loss of services for people crossing the border,” commented the deputy for the Compton/Stanstead riding.

Border posts at East Pinacle, Glenn Sutton and Morses Line will have their hours cut to 8 hours daily. The border posts at Franklin Centre and Jamieson’s Line are to be closed permanently. “The Conservatives are always yelling about law and order, yet as the United States strengthens their borders, the government is weakening ours. I believe they have a hidden agenda,” commented Mrs.
