High School Sports
Last week, Galt’s senior boys basketball team played Marie Rivier, beating them 69 to 59. Brandon Wright was Galt’s top scorer with 26 points. Cameron Murphy scored 18 while Alex Machard scored 12. Ryan Marrotte scored 6 points. In a second game against Marie Rivier, the senior boys won again with another close score of 64 to 54. Brandon Wright scored 20 points while Alex Machard scored 14 points.
Galt’s senior girls basketball team played Stanstead last week, winning 49 to 8. Samantha Young scored 9 points for Galt while Charlene Graham and Cynthia Dupont scored 8 each. Galt’s senior girls also beat Richmond last week, 83 to 11. Galt’s top scorers were Kelley Hurdle with 14, Caryn Van Zuiden with 11, Katie Murray and Rose Mackinnon with 8 points each. Galt’s junior girls basketball team played Richmond Regional last week, winning 41 to 25. Top scorers for Galt were Eliane Wubbolts with 14 and Cassandra Bouchard with 10 points. Top scorer for Richmond Regional was Sydney Grainger with 9 points.
The regular season for ETIAC basketball has ended and the playoffs are taking place this week. The final standings for the girls basketball teams for the regular season have been posted. In the bantam division, Galt’s Pipers took first place with 8 wins, no losses for a total of 16 points. Richmond was second with 8 points while Massey Vanier and Galt’s ‘Galt’ team tied for third with 6 points each. Massey Vanier and Bishop’s College School tied for first in the junior division with 12 points each, 6 wins and 3 losses. Galt was second with 10 points and Richmond was third with 0 points. Galt’s senior team finished in first place with 16 points, 8 wins and 0 losses. Stanstead, BCS and MVR all tied for second with 8 points each while Richmond finished last with 0 points.
In the first playoff games on Monday, Galt’s junior girls were beaten by BCS 36 to 25 and MVR beat Richmond 47 to 19. MVR beat BCS 44 to 28 in the final. In the junior boys semifinal, Stanstead College beat MVR 55 to 35 while BCS beat Galt 42 to 32. Stanstead beat BCS in the final 52 to 35.
