St. Patricks meeting of the Austin W.I.
TheMarch meeting of the Austin W.I. took place at the home in Austin of new member Lizette Maillé on Wednesday March 9th. The house was beautifully decorated with Poinsettias, Shamrocks and Hyacinths. President Debi Bonn opened the meeting at 1 p.m. with all reciting the M.S. Collect and Salute to the Canadian flag and thanking Lizette for her kind hospitality. Motto: A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks! Roll call was to read a Limerick and the wearing of the green and was well answered by 13 members and 1 guest, namely past member Tina Linde. There were some very interesting Irish hats and quite a collection of Limericks which caused plenty of laughter. Secretary Patti C. read the minutes from the February meeting and Treas. Betty T. read her report showing a healthy balance for us to work with in 2011. All was approved. Wool gathering: 2 baby blankets, 8 scarves, 4 Cancer caps and 3 Preemie sets. Officers: Past President Lucy McGill, President Debi Boon, Secretary Patti Carrière, Treasurer Betty Cochrane Telford, Telephone girl Liz Goodwin. Committees: Agriculture Liz Davidson, Ed. &Pres.Dev. Beatrice Juby, Publicity Betty Cochrane Telford, Health & Comm. Living Winnie Kirby and Patti Carrière. More discussion took place concerning QWI 100th Anniversary to take place in June 2011. An invitation was read from FORDYCE Branch to a County meeting to take place at the Immanuel United Church in Cowansville on March 22nd. After singing the W.I. Grace all enjoyed a scrumptious tea of fruit, crackers, cheese and blueberry pie. The March birthday girls were Bea Juby, March 4th and Patti Carrière, March 17th. There were 2 birthday cakes, 1 by hostess Lizette and the other by our oldest member, Sylvia Hopps. Many thanks to you both for all the goodies. The next meeting will be held at the home of Marjorie Glassford in Austin on Wednesday April 13th at 1 p.m. R.C. to be: Do you know your next door neighbours?
