Local cadet shines at biathlon

Stanstead Journal - - SPORTS - Valcartier

Lastweek, Valcartier was the site of the final biathlon competitions for cadets from right across the country who participated in four different types of races. The only cadet from the BeauceBoisfrancs-Estrie who was invited to participate was Alexina Gaudet-Gregoire, a junior from 067 Aviation de Sherbrooke.

In her first relay race, Alexina and her two teammates took the gold medal after competing against a dozen teams, each representing their province or Canadian territory. The same team won the bronze medal in the ‘patrol’ race. During the individual races, Alexina placed 11th from among the roughly thirty biathletes in the mass departure race and 12th during the ‘pursuit’ race – a remarkable showing for this biathlete in only her second year of practising the sport!
