Ottawa Choir Long Way From Home

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM - Madeline Mulholland Stanstead

OnSunday, March 27th, Christ Church celebrated mass at 10:30 AM as usual. Upon arriving at church, however, parishioners could not help but notice a large and conspicuous bus with Ontario license plates parked out front. A travelling church choir? In Stanstead?

The Choir from St. John the Evangelist Church of Ottawa had come to perform at mass in Stanstead. The choir, headed by Dr. Gordon Johnson, tours once a year, usually for one weekend. Dr. Johnson explained that the choir enjoys performing in small towns that have no choirs of their own. St. John the Evangelist is an Anglican church and the choir performs for other Anglican churches. He spoke of frequent visits to the Eastern Townships and northern towns in Quebec, claiming they often find themselves in English enclaves that, although small, are thriving.
