Stanstead Journal - - NEWS -

Yesterday, local Bloc candidates, along with Haut-St-Francois prefect Nicole Robert, announced that long term support was needed for the Sherbrooke Airport. “The federal Liberals are the source of the airport’s financing problems. Under Jean Chretien, they gave up the responsibility of the airport to the City of Sherbrooke without any funding for long term maintenance. The Bloc would like municipalities to have the means to maintain their airports. In their political platform, the Bloc Quebecois is the only political party in Ottawa proposing to put in place an aid program for small airports that are managed by local authorities. It must be done with both local and regional players. Regional air transport is an important factor in keeping our regional economy competitive,” commented ComptonStanstead candidate France Bonsant.
