Stanstead Women’s Institute

Stanstead Journal - - PUZZLES - Hatley

OurApril meeting was held at the home of Irene Humphrey, Massawippi, on April 7th. Her home was nicely decorated for Easter. President Phyllis opened the meeting and the seven members present recited the Collect, the Salute to the Flag and the Lord’s Prayer. Velma collected all monies due and told us that we have a satisfactory balance. Scotty read the minutes from our March meeting. Elane told the group about her conversation with Harry Isbrucker of the Stanstead Historical Society. More news on that later. We welcomed a new member to our group – Barbara Hewitt, and we are all delighted to have her join us. It was a lengthy meeting as plans were made for those attending the Quebec Women’s Institute 100th Anniversary in June at Macdonald College. Elane gave each member a summary of bar codes and encouraged everyone to buy products from Canada or the U.S. – bar codes beginning with the numbers 00 to 09. Final plans were made for our Spring Fling to be held at Eustis Hall on May 5th. The program was finalized and the menu planned. Invitations are being mailed this week to the other local Women’s Institute branches. The meeting was adjourned by Winnie Wright. Irene, assisted by Jackie Tilton, served a tasty lunch of crackers, cheese and a delicious cake. We will meet again on May 9th to decide what to make as a centerpiece for the convention.
