Put the net on Explorenet

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS BRIEF -

BarrettXplore Inc. has rebranded to Xplornet Communications Inc. The change reflects the incredible success and growth of Barrett Xplore’s Xplornet brand, Canada’s largest and best known rural broadband service. “When Barrett Xplore launched in 2004, we came to the market with a unique, even risky business plan – to use two technologies to get broadband to every inch of Canada and focus on rural customers. Using Ed and Bill’s name as part of our corporate identity told the Canadian business community that we were serious – with the weight of two of Canada’s leading entrepreneurs behind us. That helped us attract the investment we needed to get us where we are today – the leading provider of rural broadband and one of Canada’s largest telecommunications firms,” said CEO John Maduri today. “Now, our focus is solidly on an even faster expansion of our customer base. Our customers know us as Xplornet - that is the brand they are subscribing to, talking to their neighbours about, and seeing at work in regional P3 projects from coast to coast. So, in recognition that our customers are the lifeblood of this firm, we are pleased to be known from now on simply as Xplornet Communications Inc.”

Earlier this week, the company announced that it had completed a $230 million private financing. One of the largest Canadian telecom financing announcements this year, the funds will be used to support and aggressively expand Xplornet’s broadband network across Canada to the 2.4 million households that do not have access to real, affordable broadband, and also to refinance some existing debt.
