Stanstead Journal - - NEWS BRIEF - Victoria Vanier North Hatley

TheVillage of North Hatley has passed a mandate to expropriate the land that the tennis courts are on from the North Hatley Golf Course. “The town would like to buy the land that the tennis courts are on. The North Hatley Recreation Association has been using those tennis courts for the last twenty- five years. And for the last few years, the golf club has wanted to sell the land and we’ve tried to discuss buying it. We might have to force the sale if there is no agreement,” said Leonard Castagner, the town’s General Manager. According to the General Manager, there is a big difference between the asking price and the price the town is offering.

The level of the lake was still extremely high in North Hatley on Monday when Mr. Castagner spoke with the Stanstead Journal. “The level went up two feet since last Thursday; it’s a lot of water. It’s almost a foot more than the maximum height we’ve had for that date. We’re setting records,” he said. The water at the newly reconstructed dam on the lake was moving at sixty-five cubic metres per second on Monday.
