Coaticook Relay for Life nets $81,000
Coaticook held its 9th edition of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life last Saturday night at Lawrence Park. Over twelve hours, almost 250 participants and 80 survivors, some accompanied by their caregivers, walked all night long around the circuit which was illuminated by 1461 luminaries which were sold to raise money to fight the disease.
Honorary president Anny Favreau said that she was “enchanted by the experience.” She reminded the participants how important the event was because it directly finances promising research but also provides services and support for people affected by cancer.
The Relay for Life event in Magog will take place next weekend at Merry Point. There is still time to buy a luminary, to either honour someone who died from the disease or someone who has survived, from one of several local groups participating in the event.
