Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Madeline Mulholland Stanstead

SunnysideElementary School petitioned the government in the recent past for funds to build a new playground. The current play equipment has been set ablaze by delinquent teens and is well past its’ prime. The request was declined, as recent funding was already given to Jardins des Frontiers school for a new playground. According to sources at the school, the fundraiser was initiated by one of the parents of a Sunnyside student and the funds were delivered to Sunnyside principle, Mrs. Baylis-Creary, only after the event had taken place. The principle, who has mentioned her desire to acquire new play equipment, was reportedly pleased with the contribution but has not been available for comment.

On Saturday, June 11th Stanstead College hosted a garage sale to help Sunnyside School raise money for their playground. The fundraiser raised approximately $925, which Joanne Ross of Stanstead College claims is a good start for their ongoing fundraising campaign. As it stands, the school does not yet have quotes for the estimated cost of installing a new playground. The campaign will be an ongoing initiative.
