Derby Line’s Sparkling Day

Stanstead Journal - - FROM PAGE ONE - Staff Derby Line, VT

Started for some with a drizzle, kids using a real fire hose to ring a bell, but for all in Derby Line last Saturday, the day ended in a sparkling fireworks display seen from miles around.

The annual Community Day had once the look and smell of small town fairs of years past. If on this side, at Borderfest, (both events should merge in the opinion of this newspaper) we have the SQ exhibiting, on the Vermont side it is all the apparatus of Homeland Security. We have handicraft sellers, theirs are a bit more local than ours. The only thing missing on our side of the border is the giant Uncle Sam.

The luminescent balloon at twilight was a sight to behold. See picture p. 16.
