$216,000 for home renovations
Orford MNA Pierre Reid has announced that the MRC of Memphremagog will receive $216,000 for the Renovillage program of 2011-2012. The money comes from the Societé d’habitation du Québec (SHQ). “Renovillage takes into account the particular context of living in a rural area. With this program, the SHQ recognizes the importance of responding to the needs of low income households regarding renovations. Our support allows for the preservation and improvement of the quality of housing in the area but also contributes to the well-being of more vulnerable citizens by helping them to remain in their communities,” commented Mr. Reid.
The aim of Renovillage is to allow low income households in rural areas to do renovation work on their homes for major problems that need repairing. The program covers municipalities of less than 5000 people as well as municipalities with more than 5000 people when they are not served by a water or sewer network.
Homeowners who need more information on the Renovillage program should contact their municipality, their MRC, or the SHQ. In 2010, the program gave money to more than 240,000 households in Quebec. Information can also be found at www.habitation.gouv.qc.ca.
