University golf tees off in Milby
The Milby Golf Club will host the Bishop’s Omnium to start off the 40th season of university golf on August 31st and September 1st. Bishop’s is the host institution of this event. “It is the only discipline at the university level where the twelve Quebec universities take part and we’re happy that eight of those universities will be sending female delegations as well,” commented Bernard Gagnon, the university program coordinator for the RSEQ.
The circuit can count on the technical support of Golf Quebec this year. “Since we believe in the symbiosis of sports and studies, we want to offer the highest competitive standards during the university competitions,” explained the general director of Golf Quebec, Jean-pierre Beaulieu.
In 2010, the Rouge et Or of Laval University and the Carabins of Université de Montreal dominated the circuit and took, respectively, first place in the mens and the womens.
McGill University will host the second Omnium of the season on September 11th and 12th at Owl’s Head Golf Club in Mansonville. The third and last Omnium will be at the Montreal Island Golf Club on September 21st and 22nd when UQAM will host.
The provincial championship will be organized by Laval University and will take place at the Royal Quebec Golf Club on October 3rd and 4th. The Club decided to encourage the university circuit by allowing the student athletes to experience a prestigious private course.
The university golf circuit began in 1971 and has as its aim to allow student athletes to experience competitive play while studying at the university level.
