Senior Escapes Serious Injury in Car Accident
Traffic on a portion of route 143, between Stanstead and Ayer`s Cliff, is currently being detoured to circumvent a construction site where a large crane is situated in the road. The detour sends traffic over dirt roads, and it is at a T-intersection that a senior woman was fortunate to escape serious injury as her car went headlong into a four foot deep ditch.
An SQ officer at the site claims the victim was an elderly woman who was unfamiliar with the local roads and did not fore- see the T-intersection as she came over a hill. The officer went on to say that speed did not play a factor, and likely this is why the victim escaped more serious injury. The windshield on the passenger side was shattered by a deployed airbag, and the driver escaped virtually unharmed.
A tow truck had to go into the field to remove the car from the ditch. The front end of the car was badly damaged, necessitating a flatbed tow truck to remove the car from the scene.
