Gaiters lacrosse edges Mcgill in over­time thriller

Mike Dube (Brockville, Ont.) scored four goals and James Mal­loy (Uxbridge, Ont.), tal­lied the game-win­ner with 3:15 re­main­ing in over­time as Bishop’s ral­lied from a four-goal deficit at half­time to up­set divi­sion-lead­ing Mcgill, 11-10, in Cana­dian Univer­sity Field Lacrosse As­so­ci­a­tion ac­tion at Mol­son Sta­dium in Montreal, last Thurs­day.

Ryan Besse scored a hat-trick in a los­ing cause for Mcgill, which was beaten for the first time this sea­son and fell to 7-1. The Gaiters trailed 4-3 af­ter the open­ing quar­ter, 7-3 at the half and 9-5 af­ter three quar­ters but outscored Mcgill 5-1 in the fi­nal stanza.

The sec­ond-place Gaiters, who im­proved to 4-1, also had a pair of goals from Toronto na­tive Gareth Gib­son (Toronto, Ont.), along with sin­gles from An­drew MacKay (Corn­wall, Ont.), and An­dre Lale­une (Halifax, N.S.), Alex Millin (Port Moody, B.C.) and Jesse Gat­tel­laro (Aurora, Ont.).

The Gaiters have a pair of ex­hi­bi­tion games this week­end, on Satur­day at St. Michael’s (Vt.) and Sun­day at St. Lawrence (N.Y.). They re­turn to league play on Oc­to­ber 14, when they host Car­leton.
