DAY2: A bal­anced at­tack led the Bishop’s Gaiters to a 97-81 win over the Guelph Gryphons last Satur­day of the House Laughton Hoops Clas­sic in Ot­tawa. The teams were tied 21-21 af­ter the first quar­ter, but Bishop’s pulled away in the sec­ond quar­ter as they outscored Guelph 28-10, tak­ing a 49-31 half­time lead. All 13 play­ers dressed scored for Bishop’s, who shot 53.7% from the field.

Sean Mon­plaisir (Toronto, Ont.) led the Gaiters with 19 points, as he went 8-for-13 from the field. Ot­tawa na­tive Jeremy Leonard Smith posted 15 points, while Mukiya Post (Vic­to­ria, B.C.) added 13. Tim Hunter (Baie d’Urfé, Que.) scored eight points and had a game-high eight as­sists.

Guelph was led by Adam Ber­ing’s 17 points.

The Gaiters out­re­bounded Guelph 29-28, and com­mit­ted only 14 turnovers, while the Gryphons made 28 mis­cues.

DAY 3: A bal­anced at­tack led the Bishop’s Gaiters to a 77-57 win over the Univer­sity of Vic­to­ria Vikes last Sun­day of the House-Laughton Hoops Clas­sic in Ot­tawa. Four of the Gaiter starters went over ten points, led by Mike An­drews’ (Oakville, Ont.) dou­ble-dou­ble (16 points, ten re­bounds).

The Gaiters led 43-35 at half­time, and pulled away in the sec­ond half, as they outscored the Vikes 34-22 in the fi­nal 22 min­utes. Bishop’s held Vic­to­ria to only nine points in third quar­ter.

An­drews’ 16 points led the Gaiters, while Tim Hunter (Baie d’Urfé, Que.) scored 15, On­nex Black­wood (Scar­bor­ough, Ont.) added 13 and Sean Mon­plaisir (Toronto, Ont.) chipped in with 12 points and a team-high four as­sists.

The Gaiters out­re­bounded the Vikes 39-30, and com­mit­ted 14 turnovers. Bishop’s shot 45.6% from the field, while hold­ing UVic to only 32.8% shoot­ing.

Jeremy LeonardSmith (Ot­tawa, Ont.) and Mon­plaisir were both named to the tour­na­ment All-Star team.

The Gaiters (3-2, 3-1 CIS) re­turn to ac­tion next week, as they travel to Sud­bury for the Lau­ren­tian In­vi­ta­tional.

TheBishop’s Univer­sity Women’s Hockey team an­nounced yes­ter­day that they have been in­vited to join the Mar­itime In­ter­col­le­giate Women’s Hockey Chal­lenge for the up­com­ing sea­son.
